From January to April of this year alone, there were 22 instances of excessive suspended solids in the influent of sewage treatment plants in the central urban area, mostly due to the illegal discharge of mud and water into the sewage pipes, forcing untreated domestic sewage to be directly discharged into the Pearl River.
