Electro-deionization (EDI) is a pure water production technology that combines ion exchange resin adsorption technology, ion exchange membrane exchange technology, and electro-ion migration technology. The ion exchange membrane components are filled with mixed anion and cation exchange resins. Anions and cations in the influent are first adsorbed by the ion exchange resin, and under the action of an electric field, the anions and cations adsorbed by the ion exchange resin pass through the ion exchange membrane and are removed. At the same time, water molecules decompose into hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions under the action of the electric field, and these ions continuously regenerate the ion exchange resin filled between the membrane elements. The regenerated ion exchange resin also greatly increases the speed at which ions are removed, keeping the entire EDI system in a highly efficient state.
