In water treatment technology, ion exchange is a long-standing process used to produce high-purity or ultra-pure water. Generally, raw water contains various free cations and anions, such as Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe2+, HCO3-, NO3-, SO42-. When these ions pass through the ion exchange resin, they are absorbed by the resin and replaced with H+ and OH- ions, thereby being purified into pure water. The exchange resin, having adsorbed various ions, can be reduced and reused after reverse regeneration with acid (H+)/base (OH-).
